Leeds Golf Centre – Wike Ridge

Located midway between Leeds and Harrogate in the charming village of Shadwell, Leeds Golf Centre is one of The North’s premier golf complexes. Following acquisition by Parklane Properties in February 2011, a multi-million pound investment programme has totally transformed the standard, appearance and fortunes of the facility – to the extent that it now sits proudly alongside such illustrious names as nearby Moortown and Alwoodley in this prime swathe of Yorkshire’s golfing folklore. Offering club subscriptions and ‘pay and play’ access in equal measures, visitors and new members are greeted warmly regardless of their experience or ability.

Wike Ridge Championship Golf Course

The original 18-hole Wike Ridge golf course opened for play in 1993, being designed by former English Golf Union president and renowned golf course architect, Donald Steel. However, the start of 2012 witnessed the beginning of a major programme of improvements and an undertaking to transform it into Leeds’ very best modern golf course. The redevelopment, drawn up in conjunction with Jonathan Gaunt of Gaunt Golf Design, took the course’s strongest attributes and added real ‘wow’ factor – the new iteration being a more memorable, more engaging golf experience complete with dramatic new water features. The new layout has also lengthened the course, most notably on with the 2nd hole – our longest- now measuring an impressive 629 yards. Add to this the course’s greater definition – thanks to heavily revised/additional bunkering and 1400 transplanted trees – and it’s clear to see why the new Wike Ridge course has a very bright future.

The Oaks

The Oaks is unique 12-hole par-3 course, built at the same time and to the same specification as our Wike Ridge championship layout. Far from being an afterthought, The Oaks offers an excellent challenge for golfers of all standards by virtue of a great mix in hole-length and gently undulating greens. Being relatively free of hazards, the course is superb for beginners and juniors but will also allow the more experienced golfer to sharpen their iron play.
